The Crochet Corner

“Because your girl is a cheap-ass b*tch” - Rachel Maksy (many times)

If there's one thing you need to know about me, it’s this: I don't like to waste material.

On top of that, there's one new thing I've learned about myself in recent years: I don't like to buy extra yarn.... but that's not entirely true: one can never have too much yarn!

But one thing I discovered turning my side-hustle into a business, is this: to be frugal and thrifty with your money, especially when your trying out new things.

My “Random Acts of Crochet Kindness” (RACK) drop; it’s a group I’m part of Facebook- go check it out, its pretty cool.

While it’s tempting to start making anything and everything under the sun (especially from your social media feeds), it’s not a sustainable form of crafting because of how easy it is to burn out when you participate in the attention-economy (of which I have many, many thoughts on).

In this series, I’ll be taking a closer look at my crocheting endeavors - both from past, present, and future projects - and taking you through an in-depth look at when and where crocheting can truly benefit you and your clothing needs.

The only caveat for this series is this: I’ll be showing you some of my personal “thrift and stitch” projects, where in I take apart older projects and recycle them into newer items and projects.

The criteria for these projects is usually this:

  1. The material comes from a previously completed project, or is up-cycled material from a projected never manifested;

  2. the material is always cleaned and treated prior to disassembly, as is my normal procedure for up-cycled/recycled materials;

  3. the final project serves an intentional purpose when it’s completed; trending concepts and ideas will only be applied if they are applicable with significant longevity

All of this to say I’m planning on being much more intentional with my crocheting ability, and not just following trends because they’re temporarily en-vogue;

I’ve come to the point in my crocheting-career where I’ve realized a very important life-lesson: just because I can make virtually everything I’ve ever wanted, doesn’t mean that I should make everything I’ve ever wanted.

So, without further ado, welcome my friends, to the crochet corner…
