Recently I’ve come up against the challenge of clients either failing to show up for their appointment times, or attempting renege on our contract. The booking fee acts as a non-refundable deposit to ensure that new customers will actually keep their scheduled appointments.

(I don’t know how to say this without sounding condescending, but, tbh, my patience for that type of behavior is starting to wear thin)

Unfortunately, no - the deposit acts as a 1-time fee to both secure your project’s place in line, and as a way to cover initial material costs (additionally, I’ve been struggling with some individuals attempting to renege on their contracts upon their project’s completion).

In the event that a customer supplies their own materials, the deposit still stands and will not be refunded - however, the deposit amount will be deducted from the final bill as a discount.

Unlike alterations which can be assigned a flat rate, quilting is little trickier due to the variations in size, design, and stitch-patterns. For that reason I charge a quilting rate of $0.05/square inch, so that the final price is more approximate to the quilt’s size and therefore its labor cost.

This rate also applies to T-shirt quilts, memory gifts, and custom-made originals.

Absolutely! Quilting is all about free expression and creativity - which is why no two ever look alike. I encourage customers to get involved with the process by seeking out materials that reflect their unique personalities and tastes. However, if a client is uncertain of their choices or even uncomfortable with picking materials, I will be more than happy to coordinate the materials for them.

Original quilts made from scratch are extremely time and labor intensive, and as such are some of the most expensive purchases my studio offers.
