My Hexagon Daisy Bag

So fun fact about me: I only just realized a few years ago that you can use a variety of materials to make things. I know shocking, but I had an epiphany a couple years ago in which I discovered something important: the best artists and artisans are the ones who realize that they’re never done learning or training. Even if you choose to specialize, you must always be prepared to keep up with new information and practice, practice, practice your basics.

Honestly, this was one of the best discoveries I ever made. It took away the pressure to be “perfect” all of the time, and once that stress was gone I was able to level-up way more than I expected.

That’s how I came up with this granny square pattern for my collection: the “hexagonal daisy square” has been my pride and joy for a long time, because it was the first pattern I ever drafted for myself, and was made specifically with cotton in mind.

Cotton is an especially great material for summer projects, especially clothes and hats; it’s cool and breathable making it perfect for hot days. While being nice and sturdy, and easy to clean with just a washing machine at home.

In order to really get a feel for working with this material, and to practice the new granny square pattern I made, I made myself this daisy tote as a way to experiment.

Sadly, I don’t believe I have this tote bag anymore. After using it for a few years, I just didn’t have any real reason to keep it once I shifted my career goals; I didn’t need to go into an office anymore, and I didn’t have a reason to really go out - well, anywhere - anymore because I needed to start saving money for gas and car insurance and maintenance.

But I couldn't bring myself to take it apart, so I decided to donate it in the hopes that someone else can get some good use out of it, too.
