Summer Wreath (2026)

In my ongoing journey to finally, de-stash my numerous, and mobile, stash-mountains, I came across some yarn from an earlier project this year and was about to make them into a completely different project.

Until I realized I still had half a skein of brown yarn left, and the answer hit me:

Sunflowers!

Sunflower “vines”

Honestly, it was kind of perfect because I still had this large, mesh wreath I made myself last year (to clear out my, stash of course). I left the wreath plain because I honestly had no idea what I should use to decorate it.

But this year, the more and more I looked at it the more I just kept thinking “sunflowers” for some reason.

I even found a skein of green cotton to make leaves and green tendrils to wrap in-between the folds of the mesh.

But then, after those were done, I figured “why stop there?”

Easy Daisy Chain:

With just a little roll of purple cotton, I had enough to make these 10-petaled daisies. They’re made with only 2 stitches - single crochet & chain stitch - which makes them perfect for clearing out those itty-bitty rolls of yarn you end up with.

Classic Roses:

Made from double crochet stitches in a fan pattern, these are easily my favorite types of roses to make! Essentially you roll them together at the foundational chain, which creates their 3-D effect, and then you can add stems through their center-bottom so that they stand up like cut-flowers.

You can also sew them onto other projects, like headbands and bags, for decoration.

I may be biased, but I personally recommend this stash-buster project for my fellow crocheters.

There are so many other cool and fun flower patterns you can use for filling in a wreath like this, and it’s a great way to use up the smaller rolls of yarn since some patterns don’t require a lot of yarn in the first place.

Even though my wreath is now looking nice and colorful, I don’t think I’m done filling it just yet. There’s still a plenty of empty space left, and I’ve still got a fair amount of yarn to clear out still.

It’s time to up my flower-power to the next level: lilies!
