Coquette Bows

So I’ve sewn and quilted a lot of projects over the years…

I mean A LOT!

At this point, I’m not even sure I could sit and list them all completely. But believe it or not, the stash-bags upon stash-bags of cut swatches of material don’t just belong to me…

Fun fact about sewing when many people in your circle don’t sew: you end up inheriting a LOT of extra quilter’s cotton.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining one bit. If it weren’t for my friends’ generosity, I don’t think I’d be as skilled as I am today; I wouldn’t have had an affordable way to practice all the little tips and tricks, so I’m pretty sure I would’ve quit a long time ago as a result.

But then the question becomes, what to do with all of that extra material? Especially since I still run an alterations business full-time and will inevitably need more space for work.

Well, the truth is there are a lot of little projects you can pick and choose from to clear the stash. As long as the material is clean, the machine nice and oiled, there’s honestly nothing you can’t make.

This week, as I’m currently awaiting the arrival of a yarn delivery for a commission, I thought I’d be productive with my spare time and kill two birds with one stone…

You see, it’s not just extra material I need to get rid of…

It’s a LOT of extra hardware.

I steadily built up a healthy little supply of clips, pins, and chains, when I still foolishly believed I could single-handedly take on the “the big dogs” of mass production.

Turns out, they didn’t have clue who the hell I was… and trying to keep mass-production-pass with only a little home-sewing-machine, is the definition of insanity.

So, it’s time to clear out the old, and make that extra shelf-space for the materials I know I need to keep on hand for the sake of my clients: thread, buttons, and extra pins.

Why Coquette?

Now, if you know me you may be asking this very question. The ultra-feminine blend of 18th-century Rococo, 20th-century Americana, and Y2K has never really been part of my personal style.

BUUUTTT - just because I don’t wear a particular style, doesn’t mean I don’t like making accessories for it…

On top of that, because this style is still pretty popular right now, I was hoping that the bows I’m currently making will be able to find their way to people who appreciate them.
