Crochet Butterfly

I love making these adorable little butterflies! Personally, I’ve been using them to help declutter my space by using up small rolls of leftover yarns. I found a group of FB called “Random Acts of Crochet Kindness,” in which crocheters put together little crochet keepsakes and leave them in public places to help brighten someone’s day. I’ve finally finished putting together my own little drop, and, now that summer’s around the corner, I can’t want to leave my little butterflies around my hometown!

Materials:

  • Size H-8 crochet hook (or larger for absolute beginners)

  • Remnant yarn rolls (really get creative with your color schemes!)

  • Snips

Instructions:

  1. Ch 5 and sl st together to form ring;

  2. Ch 3 and then 1 dc into center-space of the ring; *ch 2 then 2 dc into center-space*
    Repeat (*) for a total of 8 ch sp around the ring; ch 2 and then sl st closed.

  3. Ch 1 then turn work;

  4. Then in the next ch sp, **1 hdc, 2 dc, 1hdc; then sl st into next dc;**

  5. Repeat (**) into each ch sp across rnd; sl st into the last dc to finish rnd;

  6. Fold the octagon in half to create the butterfly; DO NOT CLIP YARN!

  7. While holding your yarn feed under the “right side” of the butterfly, loosely sl st in the ch sp along the centerline, sl st over the center most fold, then clip;

  8. Hide the excess inside with a tapestry needle; cut the remaining if necessary.
