Inspired: Lucky Charm

Hey all!

So, in my ongoing quest to master floral-crochet- and because I am a superstitious little gremlin!- I found this four-leaf clover pattern online… complete with a crochet chart!

Unfortunately - I struggled to understand the dang thing.

Have I mentioned yet that I cut my teeth on shorthand instead?

Anyhoo, I got an idea for how I could make it work- although it did require a little deviation from the pattern’s deign:

So, all that said, here’s the pattern I came up with (in shorthand - for now):

Materials:

  • 1 skein green crochet thread

  • Size D/3 crochet hook

  • Snips

  • Tapestry needle

  • Keychain chain & ring

Instructions:

  1. Ch 3 then sl st together to make ring;

  2. Ch 1, then sc 8 into the center space of the ring;

  3. Sl st into 1st sc; next, *ch 5 and sc into the 2nd ch from hook;

  4. Sc into the next 4 sts (for a total of 4 sc);

  5. Turn work then, w/o chaining, sc into the same st; 2 hdc into the next st; 1 dc and 1 trbc into the next st; 3 dc into the last st of the row;

  6. Ch 1 loosely then sl st into the same st;

  7. Ch 2 then 3 dc into the other side of the leaf; 1 trbc and 1 dc into the next ch sp; then 2 hdc into the next ch sp; and 1 sc into the last ch sp;

  8. Insert hook through starting sc and starting foundation sc; wrap yarn under the leaf and YOH; pull through all 3 sts;

  9. Sl st into the next foundation st;*

  10. Repeat (*) 3x across foundation round, to make the next 3 leaves of the clover.

  11. After making the last leaf, sl st into the last sc;

  12. To make the stem: ch 7 then sl st into the 2nd ch from hook; sl st the rest of the ch, and into the starting ch sp; clip and tuck the remaining yarn to finish the clover.

OPT. Add a premade key chain & ring to display the clover as a charm!
